Arthur Darley, a classically trained Irish musician with a deep appreciation for traditional music, composed this tune. He both performed and collected traditional pieces in the early 20th century (see Darley & McCall’s collection). Employed as a Church of Ireland organist in Bruckless, County Donegal, Darley also spent time living in Dunkineely, County Donegal, where he influenced local fiddlers, especially John Doherty and Donny O’Donnell (Caoimhin Mac Aoidh, 1994).
