Hag at the Churn (The)
Category:

According to the Bothy Band, it is a highly regarded pipe tune. Caoimhin Mac Aoidh explains that its Irish title translates correctly as “Hag in the churn,” referencing a folk superstition where witches hid in churns to steal butter. However, they could not endure this particular tune, so it was played as a ward once the churning was complete. If a woman left the house during the ritual, it was regarded as a grave and telling omen.
