Maid behind the Bar (The)
Category:

This reel is known by several titles, many predating the 78 RPM era. It was popularized by Sligo fiddle master James Morrison and piper Tom Ennis, and has since become one of the most common tunes in modern Irish sessions.

An early version appears as an untitled reel in Book 2 (No. 278) of Stephen Grier’s c. 1883 manuscript collection from County Leitrim. It was published as “Indy’s Favorite” and “Judy’s Reel” in Ryan’s Mammoth Collection (1883), and Francis O’Neill later printed it as “Maid of Castlebar”—possibly a variant or corruption of the now-standard title, “Maid Behind the Bar.”
